Dr. Casey Means: Transform Your Health by Improving Metabolism, Hormone & Blood Sugar Regulation
In this episode, my guest is Dr. Casey Means, MD, a physician trained at Stanford University School of Medicine, an expert on metabolic health and the author of the book, "Good Energy." We discuss how to leverage nutrition, exercise and environmental factors to enhance your metabolic health by improving mitochondrial function, hormone and blood sugar regulation.
We also explore how fasting, deliberate cold exposure and spending time in nature can impact metabolic health, how to control food cravings and how to assess your metabolic health using blood testing, continuous glucose monitors and other tools.
Metabolic dysfunction is a leading cause of chronic disease, obesity and reduced lifespan around the world. Conversely, improving your mitochondrial and metabolic health can positively affect your health span and longevity.
Listeners of this episode will learn low- and zero-cost tools to improve their metabolic health, physical and mental well-being, body composition and target the root cause of various common diseases.

    Typical liberals. Say it’s the wrong study or practice of specific medicine. Blame it on the environment. Don’t mention the processed foods and chemicals in food to make them high calories made up of byproducts of chemicals. Oh wait they are sponsored by big pharma and the food industry. lol. That right.

    Another great podcast , it’s great to have solutions that can be practiced naturally. Unfortunately, I don’t think many doctors even suggest natural ways to improve health anymore . They just find a drug that they can prescribe. Big pharma seems to dictate the healthcare system at this point and time . Thank you for sharing this great information.

    How can Dr. Huberman’s podcasts keep getting better and better? Because there are so many passionate, brilliant souls diligently researching/learning, daily. And sharing. Thank you, you beautiful brains! With Dr. Casey Mears, I feel like I’m listening to Jen Psaki speak on the state of our sick bodies, and the potential optimal health of same bodies. Not because Mears is succinctly decapitating **iots with her superlative critical thinking, but because Mears’ intelligence, charismatic affect/appearance and voice is similar to Psaki’s. 😊❤️ Question - the mass manufactured, highly processed foods of the last 50 years is blamed for increasing numbers of poor metabolic health in the U.S. But listening to the part about the push to increase access to Ozempic made me wonder if the pharmaceutical industry is not also equally responsible for our ugly microbiomes and the siloing in the medical field/specialties. I believe it is. The U.S. is most unhealthy, and happens to be the one country in which its citizens are subjugated subjects of pharmaceutical royalty. We are poorly regarded by the industry that is allowed to hold good health hostage for money. It holds good health hostage by manipulating the truth, as well. Also, I’ve understood that in eating raw spinach, its oxalates bind with calcium and carry the mineral out of our blood, into our urine. Spinach is a life long favorite food. I even eat it cold, out of the can. The role of its oxalates befuddle me. We know that inertia begets inertia. Indeed, healthful eating begets healthful eating. I now know why I’ve always been the buzzkill in some groups, who say, want to grab a burger and fries? I’m like, “Well, I have some greens in my fridge that need to be used up. We could have salad.” When I was a girl, my favorite snack was a V-8 and a green pepper with a chunk of cheese. Or a Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate bar for indulgence. Or cantaloupe. Or a cucumber. My healthy biome was looking out for me. Now I know that it’s not just that I love those foods. I love them because my healthy body craves them as maintenance of the healthy body that craves them. I am loopy. 🤪 I am grateful for Huberman and outstanding, could listen to her forever, Dr. Cindy Mears. What a time to be alive. I love thinking of how these podcasts will benefit young people who have so many life chances before them.

    IMO vapes are beyond normal levels of addictive- I recently went on a trip w my sister and when we were out in public spaces she kept leaving to go to the bathroom every 5-7 min. Frequently enough that I finally had to ask if she was okay, and she told me she was leaving to go hit her vape pen in the bathroom. I couldn't believe it. And speaking as a cigarette smoker- cigarette smokers are nowhere near as addicted to cigarettes as people who vape are to their pens. Which really speaks to the level of addictive chemicals packed into these vape pens.

    • @katherineolmstead9948
      @katherineolmstead9948 21 годину тому

      And in regards to change in baseline, I cannot express enough the change in personality I have seen in my sister since she started vaping. She is so exhausted all the time, visibly drained of energy, she has horrible mood swings and I hardly even know how to communicate with her anymore because she might lash out at any given time. I stand firm in my belief that these changes in her are because of vaping.

    Thanks for sharing ! You are best ally saying we need to reprogram our bad habits , by confronting them ! I remember hearing a program on a public channel about how anger affects our physical and in our reality ! Also it basically boils down to maturity ! There are many immature people walking around in the world! I was one of those ! Between my mom telling me , when someone annoyed me , did I reach out to them and find out if it was personal and how is that person doing, plus this teacher on a public station putting anger into perspective of being immature , changed my life forever ! I was in my thirties! Very good explanation of health issues !

    the most important distinction to make here is that finding that authentic seed of inner personal bliss is totally different than what social media and the outside world trains us to try to be above and special and unique - those endeavours which can literally make one ill. So this is about personal inner joy and bliss. In fact what the world considers ordinary can be totally delightful and exquisite in one's inner experience.

    I can attest to polyphasic sleep not working. I tried the uberman schedule for a month back in 2005. I was exhausted all the time. I was especially useless around 4am. I ended up getting sick and fired from my job. I loved the idea of it at the time but now would strongly advise against it unless it's for something short term where being awake as much as possible is more important than health. As I understand it, it was first studied as an option for solo round the world sailors. It might make more sense for something like that.
